Natives are Done!
If some of you have been out on the course lately, you may notice the good ol natives are down, making the course a rather easy course to play now. We do have some minor cutting and some cleanup work around some areas that the land was not quite suitable for the tractor. We will also be burning most of the draws to see if we can continue setting the cattails back. Along with the natives being finished, the equipment is in the home stretch as well. Normally we still have some unfortunate weather hamper outside activities, but the way the grass, trees, and even flowers have started emerging, my guess is spring is very near. You might have noticed the new trash can at the clubhouse, and soon you will see our work on the new divot box and new tee markers built in-house.

Snow!
Well in terms of the white fluffy stuff, we surely received enough in certain areas and others the wind literally blew most of it off areas where we were needing the additional moisture. The greens in particular was an area I had hoped to get some much needed moisture, especially on all of our knobs where we already started to see a change in turf color. We will normally look for a consistent browning in dormant times, but there has been some areas that have actually shown a little white ting coloring meaning the area is becoming droughty. If we dont recieve any additional snow in the short forecast, we might actually try piling snow on some of these areas to be able to melt slowly into the subsurface. I have never done it before, but like they say drastic times require drastic measures! It sure would beat having to get the sprayer out again during the winter to water. I will continue to post for any additional updates on course conditions, but I wouldnt be suprised if this snow lingers aorund for a while.
The iStimp: For better or worse
There seems to be an App for everything now, I am sure Greg and the golf shop will advise against this app in fear of a 4 hour round taking 5 hours to play! Pretty interesting none the less, all superintendents on our forums are hoping that it leans on the fast side for everyday readings!!

Seeing if I still know how to work this Blog!
I first was to apologize for not using this like I had planned in 2010, but the great people of Blogger has added some tools to help spread the messages and information. I am looking to see if this works like it is suppose to. My plans are to utilize this as a reliable communication channel for the members and guests. Thanks for viewing the blog, save it to your favorites and come back every so often to see whats new out on the course, or sign up for an email or facebook posting.
